Ranking of States by Percentage of Banks That Are Well-Capitalized

Based on the latest information from the FDIC (dated December 31, 2009), the following table shows the percentage of banks based in each state that are categorized as "Well Capitalized". The criteria for a bank to be "Well Capitalized" is a total risk-based capital ratio of 10.0 percent or greater; a Tier 1 risk-based capital ratio of 6.0 percent or greater; a leverage ratio of 5.0 percent or greater; and not being subject to any order or other directive. (The following map and table containing detailed numbers do not account for such orders.)
